Tupelo--Saturday morning, Lynda Langerfeld won the victory in her courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis and went to her new heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Lynda was born to John and Carolyn Russell in Morganfield, KY and lived most of her early life in Columbus, MS. She graduated from Lee High School and after attending MUW for one year, graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
In 1970, she met the love of her life, David Langerfeld, at Camp Wrenwood in Wren, MS. They married in 1974, enjoying 36 wonderful years of faithful companionship. While at Mississippi State, they served First Baptist Church, Macon, MS. After seminary, they served First Baptist Church of Madisonville,
TN; Vestavia Hills Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL; Oakhust Baptist Church in Clarksdale, MS and have just completed 21 years of service at Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo, MS.
Known by everyone for her beautiful, encouraging spirit; her joyful, gentle disposition; and her glowing, contagious smile, Lynda had a special ministry at Harrisburg which allowed the ladies of the church to stay with her and minster to her while her husband ministered at the church - But she also ministered to those same ladies in ways to numerous to count.
Lynda is survived by her husband, David Langerfeld of Tupelo, her parents, John and Carolyn Russell of Murfreesboro, TN; one brother, Russ (Pat) Russell of Columbus, MS; two sisters, Susan (Gary) Aldridge of Denver, CO and Merrill (Theo) Shepard of Murfreesboro, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was blessed by four very special caregivers - Edith Hutcheson, Frances Cayson, Gloria Fitzpatrick and Rhonda Shannon, three "Home-Makeover" Specialists - Joan Rae Collum, Joann Henderson and Becky Jackson and four very special "angels" - Lauren Patterson, Lisa Hawkins, Sue McAllister and Linda Hale
Funeral Services will be Monday at 2:00 PM at Harrisburg Baptist Church with the Ministerial Staff of Harrisburg Baptist Church officiating. Graveside Services will be 6 p.m. Monday at Friendship Cemetery in Columbus, MS. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Pall Bearers will be Paul Backstrom, Dr. Bert Duncan, Mike Ferris, Dr. Alan Flowers, Mickey Holliman, Dr. Bill Kahlstorf, Lee McAlister, John Smith, Dr. Robert Yarber and Dr. Smokey Young.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 - 9:00 PM at Harrisburg Baptist Church and from 1:00 until the service on Monday.
