Luene Waycaster

February 2, 1918 — February 9, 2011

Brewer - Mary Luene Roebuck Waycaster, 93, known, to her family as "Mama Ene" went to be with the Lord February 9, 2011, at the Gregory Green House at Traceway. She was born February 2, 1918, to Claude and Gussie Morgan Roebuck of the Nettleton community where she spent her early childhood and attended school. In 1937, she married W.E. (Elgar) Waycaster. The couple spent the majority of their life togther in the Brewer Community and were both employed by the Shannon School. Luene loved to cook and prepared many meals in the Shannon School Cafeteria and for family and friends. She loved helping her husband tend a garden and people from around the county regularly came to their home to get vegetables. She loved to give food, flowers, seeds, and other items. Luene made sure that anyone who came to visit her home never left empty handed. She was an active member of Brewer Baptist Church for over 60 years and served last as a Senior Adult Sunday School teacher. In her senior years, she received her license to drive and commuted to First Baptist Church of Tupelo to help with their Mother's Day Out Program.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Billy Langley and Rev. Keith Wiseman officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Long (Jim) of Brewer; three sons, B.W. (Bill) Waycaster (Pat) of Houston Tex. and Old Union, Benny Waycaster (Martha) of Old Union, and Mitch Waycaster (Christy) of Tupelo; two sisters, Sis Pettigrew of Nettleton, Jewelene Barber (Herman) of Memphis, Tenn.; her brother, Claude Roebuck (Ruth) of Tupelo; 11 grandchildren, Kim Waycaster, Kristen Lee (Kevin), Kara Wedemeyer (Steve), Jon Long (Susanne), Melinda Tidwell (Cliff), Sam Long (Diane), Brad Waycaster (Pam), Greg Waycaster (Kathy), Ginger Miller (Matt), Jill West (Josh), and Ross Waycaster; 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elgar Waycaster, a brother, Thomas Roebuck and wife, Laura, her brother-in-law, Carlos Pettigrew; three grandchildren, Kellany Waycaster, Keelyn Waycaster, and Clay Waycaster.

Pallbearers will be Steve Wedemeyer, Kevin Lee, Jon Long, Sam Long, Cliff Tidwell, Brad Waycaster, Greg Waycaster, Matt Miller, Josh West and Ross Waycaster..

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.

The family would like to express appreciation to the nurses and nurses assistants at the Traceway Gregory House and of North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice for the tender love and care they have given our mother, especially over the last few weeks.
