Lucille Travis, 87, long time resident of Blue Mountain, went to be with the Lord Thursday, December 28, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Los Angeles, California February 10, 1930, to Henry and Martha Regier Wall. She was reared in Oklahoma and was a 1948 graduate of Stilwell High School. On June 17, 1950, she married Dr. James L. Travis. Lucille was a 1963 graduate of Blue Mountain College and later obtained her Master's Degree in Library Science from The University of Mississippi. She demonstrated a missional lifestyle as a minister's wife and wonderful homemaker. At BMC she worked as a librarian and teacher. After moving to Tupelo, she was a church hostess at Calvary Baptist Church. She was a church pianist at numerous churches for over 50 years. She was also a Sunday School teacher for a number of years and had just recently retired. She along with her husband heavily invested themselves in the students, faculty and staff at BMC. When she was not devoting time to the church or college, she thoroughly enjoyed reading books checked out from the local library and working crossword puzzles. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter LuAnne Ford (Ricky) of Booneville; three sons, Dr. James L. Travis III (Carra) of Dumfries, Virginia, Dr. Philip Travis (Karen) of Mobile, Alabama and Dr. John Travis (Ruth) of Clinton; one sister, Nadine McPherson (Frank) of Moore, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren, James L. Travis IV (Joselyn), Elisabeth Howe (Lance), Bethany Benton (Chris), Daniel Travis (Ashley), Mary Claire Jackson (Dr. William Jackson), Dr. Aaron Ford (Kristy), Lauren Whitson (Josh), Suzanne Ford, Ben Ford (Lindsey), Anna Kate Travis, Sarah Grace Zetterholm (David), and Laura Joy Travis and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Stephen and one brother, Stanley Wall.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Ronald Meeks and Dr. Jim Futral officiating. Burial will be in Blue Mountain Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
Pallbearers will be James L. Travis IV, Lance Howe, Chris Benton, Daniel Travis, William Jackson, Aaron Ford, Josh Whitson, Ben Ford, and David Zetterholm.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of her Calvary Senior Adult Sunday School class and past and current faculty and staff at Blue Mountain College.
