Verona - Lucille Bowen, 90, died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at her daughters residence in Tupelo after an extended illness. She was born August 31, 1919, to Howard and Marietta Towery Putt. She was raised in the Richmond Community and lived in Verona most of her adult life. She was retired from North Mississippi Medical Center where she worked as a nurse's assistant for 30 years. She enjoyed reading and watching television. She loved spending time with her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Verona.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include her three daughters, Joyce Ferguson of Tupelo, Peggy Reeves (Donnie) of Pontotoc, Diane McKissack of Tupelo; her son, Darnell (Don) Bowen, Jr (Evelyn) of Byhalia; nine grandchildren, Nancy Horne (Tony) of Byhalia, Karen Bowen of Byhalia, Dwayne Bowen of Byhalia, Lacresia Crosby of Tupelo, Dr. Adrian Shook of Owensboro, Ky., Jessie Reeves of Pontotoc, Sonya Witcher of Dorsey, Kristi Russell (Ronnie) of Mantachie, Jennifer McGuirk (Jed) of Shrieveport, La.; 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Darnell Bowen who died Dec. 8, 1985; two sisters and a brother; her granddaughter, Robyn Meggs, two sons-in-law, Eddie Ferguson and Bobby McKissack.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Meggs, Blake Meggs, Kevin Crosby, Andy Kimery, Jessie Reeves, and Albert McShan

Dwayne Bowen will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
