Tupelo - Lucile Loretta Curtis Millsaps, 81, died Friday, February 18, 2011, at her daughters residence after an extended illness. She was born January 22, 1930, in Pheba to K.C. and Ida Morie Gibson Curtis. She grew up in Corinth and graduated from Corinth High School. Earlier in her life she worked as a medical assistant until she began her career as a wife and homemaker. She was a member of Eastern Star in Corinth and the Aberdeen Garden Club. A resident of Tupelo since 1969, she was a member of First United Methodist Church. Gifted with hospitality and a servant's heart, she was a wonderful cook and creative baker and enjoyed sharing the fruit of her labor. She was a constant life companion and encourager to her husband, Luther, who adored her completely. The compassion of Christ was evident in her life as she helped those in her community such as shut-ins and elderly. Lucile Millsaps will be remembered as one who walked out her faith in relationship to family, friends and her community. She taught her family how to love and care for each other by living it out before them. A student of the Word, she often enclosed scripture references in letters to family and friends. As stated in her own words, I like to say the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) often and try my best to put it into practice. The legacy she leaves her family stands as a tribute that her life displayed this fruit always.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Landon Dowden officiating. Rev. Millsaps Dye and Dr. Prentis Gordon will assist. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Cemetery in Corinth. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
