Lucelle Evans

Evergreen - Lucelle Ballard Evans, 91, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Countrywood Plantation in Mantachie. A native of the Ballardsville Community, she was born March 15, 1919, to Clifford and Blanche Lavelle Harris Ballard. She graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School and attended Mississippi State College for Women. She was a longtime resident of the Evergreen Community and married John Lewis Evans Dec. 9, 1941. A member of the Evergreen Homemaker's Club, she was a wonderful seamstress and cook and loved animals. She was a faithful member of Evergreen United Methodist Church.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Doug Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be in New Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include her two daughters, Bettye West of Evergreen and Mary Ann Elmore of Saltillo; a sister, Mildred Sheffield, formerly of Dorsey; four grandsons, Randy West of Evergreen, David West of Kalama, Washington, Pat West of Evergreen, and Luke Mosley of Starkville; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Evans who died February 9, 2000; and her brother, George Thomas Ballard.

Pallbearers will be Luke Mosley, Randy West, Pat West, David West, Cliff West, John Ballard, Milton Schumpert.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
