Louise A. Kilgo
Tupelo - Louise Annette Kilgo, 92, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017, at Traceway. She was born in Pontotoc County on June 30, 1924 to Carrell Richard and Mattie Elizabeth Douglas Nolan. Louise worked at Howard Brothers Department Store for 20 years and retired as the manager of the men and boys department. After retirement, she kept busy working in multiple craft and retail stores. Louise was a locally known seamstress and sewed semi professionally all of her working life. She married Cecil Kilgo March 15, 1950. Louise and Cecil were founding members of Spring Street Mission Church which turned into West Jackson Street Baptist Church. Louise was an avid and talented photographer and enjoyed tending her garden. She was a remarkable cook and baker and baked cakes for others frequently. She only had one son, but Louise was constantly adopting in younger women to mentor like daughters.
Survivors include her son, J. Richard Kilgo of Raleigh, North Carolina; sister, Carolyn Sullivan of Starkville; nieces and nephews, Terry Sullivan (Jackie) of Brandon, Linda Langston (Steven) of Starkville, Robert Turner (Beverly) of Arkansas and Larry Turner (Sandy) of Memphis, Tennessee; great-nieces and nephews, Drew Turner of Middleton, Tennessee, Lauren Langston Chandler, Tyson Langston and Jack and Nick Sullivan; sister-like cousins, Kathleen Phillips and Jo Anne Douglas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Dorothy Turner.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with visitation one hour prior to service time. Rev. Chris O'Daniel will be officiating and burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
