LORAINE BURKS
Tupelo - Jennie Loraine Burks, 91, died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after a brief illness. A Lee County native, she was born December 30, 1914 to the late Joseph and Pet Jolly Winders. She worked for many years at Reed's and Milam Mfg. and later sewed for the public. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Tupelo Freewill Baptist Church.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Terry Pierce and Rev. Tommy Winders officiating. Burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Rice and husband, Al, of Saltillo; one son, Billy W. Burks and wife, Patty, of Tupelo; five grandchildren, Sheri Dillard and husband, Scott, of Saltillo, Greg Burks and wife, Leslie, of Tupelo, Barry Burks and wife, Jane, of Ridgeland, Hugh Rice and wife, Suzanne, Brett Burks and wife, Chris, all of Saltillo; ten great-grandchildren, Taylor, Haley, Wesley, Emily, Bryson, and Andrew Burks, Ashton and A.J. Dillard, and Will and Hannah Beth Rice; one brother, Joeseph Wilford Winders, and wife, Alsie, of Maryville, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Eunice Winders; a brother-in-law, Buddy Hall; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, John Allen Burks; three sisters, Lavelle King, Jewell Crockett, Pinkie Hall; and three brothers, Duddie, C.G., and Jolly Winders.
Pallbearers will be Hoyle Bedford, Leroy Bedford, Hoyt Richey, Robert Post and Tommy Sudduth.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
