Lois Prather

Tupelo - Lois Glos Prather, 82, died peacefully in her sleep Friday, November 5, 2010, after an extended illness. A Bellwood, Illinois native, she was born April 20, 1928 to Clarence John and Elma Schultz Glos. She graduated with honors from Proviso Township High School. She then went on to graduate, with honors, from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She was editor of the Carleton Newspaper and a member of Pi- Delta Epsilon Journalism honorary. After graduation she returned to Chicago and worked for Scott Foresman Publishing Company and then became editor of the Lake Forest, Illinois newspaper. She was active in the Chicago Chapter of the American Youth, where she helped host programs such as cycling, canoeing and skiing. In 1953 she married Tom Prather and they moved to the Western suburb of Chicago where she worked for Press Publication. She then became a charter member of St. Barnabus Episcopal Mission Church in Glen Ellyn, where she served as the first Parish Secretary. In addition to raising two young children she found time to become a docent at the Art Institute of Chicago, ski extensively in the Midwest and Colorado, and become an excellent ice skater. In 1974, she and her family moved to Tupelo and shortly after became parish secretary for all Saints Episcopal Church, where she served for over 22 years. She also was active in the Tupelo String Music Program at Tupelo High School and was president for the Fortnightly Musicale and the Saturday Reading Club. She also served as State secretary of the Mississippi Federation of Music clubs, State Secretary of the Society of Companions of the Holy Cross, a member of Cursillo in Mississippi. She was also a graduate of the Education for Ministry Program at Sewanee University of the South. At all Saints, she was a licensed Lay Reader, Chalice Bearer, a member of the choir and served on the altar guild until 2006. She enjoyed music, art, reading, gourmet cooking, pets, travel and especially her work with all Saints Episcopal Church.

A Requiem Eucharist will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2010, at All Saints Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Tom Prather of Tupelo; one daughter, Anne Boone (Mal) of Asheville, NC; one son, Tom Prather of Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, until the Requiem Eucharist, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Church General Memorial Fund, or to Alzheimers Disease Research, a division of the American Health Assistance Foundation.
