Tupelo - Lois Irene Conaway, 96, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A Tupelo native and lifelong resident, she was born March 18, 1912 to Richard William and Samantha Catherine Clayton Robison. She married Roy Conaway September 28, 1930. She was the beloved mother of ten children and loved gardening, Gospel music, her church, and animals. She was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Harrisburg Baptist Church with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Nan Barnes of Guin, Ala. and Mitzi Austin of Tucson, Ariz.; three sons, Gerald Conaway of Tupelo, Billy Conaway of Pontotoc, and Richard Conaway of Pontotoc; one sister, Ruth Herring of Fulton; fifteen grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Conaway; two daughters, Myrtice Henry and Doris Patterson; three sons, Elmer Conaway, Lester Conaway, and James Conaway; a sister, Nealy Mae McMillen; two brothers, Robert W. Robison and James Owen Robison; and a grandson, Larry Barnes.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Eddie Wayne Barnes, Stevie Dale Barnes, Thomas Dewayne Barnes, Jeremy Dale Barnes, Jamie Patterson, and Richard Scott Reynolds.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
