Lex Orman

March 16, 1939 — December 6, 2008

Lex Orman, 69, died December 6, 2008 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi, after an extended illness. He was born March 16, 1939 in Columbus, MS to the late Arthur Noel Orman and Arenta Dill Orman. His birth name was Delton Lavelle Orman.

He entered into Federal employment with the U. S. Air Force in March 1956 and was assigned to the accounting and finance office at Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina. He left the Air Force in 1960 and enlisted in the Army, assigned to the Budget and Fiscal Office of USARPAC in North Camp Drake, Japan. In January 1964, he was accepted to the Fort Holabird, Maryland, Army Intelligence School and became a duly authorized Military Intelligence Specialist. He served at the San Antonio Field Office of the 112th Military Intelligence Group, the Taejon Field Office Company B, 502d MIB in Seoul, the Spokane Resident Office of the 115th MIG, the 527 Military Intelligence Company in Kaiserslautern, Germany, the 2d Battalion 525th Military Intelligence Group in Saigon, Phan-thiet, and Qui-nhon, Vietnam. In his final years of service, he worked at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Fort Hood, Texas. Prior to his retirement, he was the Senior Counselor in Area Confinement at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His last official preassignment order was to the Presidio of San Francisco as a U.S. Army Counterintelligence Special Agent.

Mr. Orman moved to Tupelo in 1986. He conducted genealogical research and complied an extensive report on the Orman and Dill families as well as assisting others with their genealogy research. From his research, he developed the Forward Lineage Affidavit (FLA) and had several of his findings published in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching old movies.

Mr. Orman is survived by his daughter, Helen Orman of Yuma, Arizona;
his son Lex Orman II of Scottsdale, Arizona;
and the mother of his children, Marilynn Orman of Yuma.
One granddaughter, Makyla Orman of Yuma.
Three brothers, John (Lucy) Orman of Virginia Beach VA;
Bobby Orman and Jason (Margot) Orman both of Corinth.
Two sisters, his caregiver Patti (Stephen) Thompson of Tupelo, MS
and Bonnie (Keith) Phillips of Corinth, MS

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no local service.

A memorial service will be held on Mount Mitchell in North Carolina next year.
