LETTIE PLATT

Tupelo - Lettie Whitenton Platt, 89, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. A Lee County native, she was born January 6, 1918 to the late Thomas A. and Annie S. Jennings Whitenton. A life long Tupelo resident, she married Henry L. Platt in 1935. Together, they owned and operated Platt Sales. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing bridge, and reading. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Mike Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.

Survivors include her brother, Reese Whitenton and wife, Bettye, of Tupelo; a son-in-law, Don Watts, Sr.; a grandson, Don Michael Watts and wife, Doris, of Tupelo; her caregiver, Gail Givhan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry L. Platt; her daughter, Barbara Watts; two grandsons, Chris and Joe Watts; and three brothers, A.T., Elbert, and Leon Whitenton.

Pallbearers will be Troy Whitenton, Thomas Whitenton, Douglas Whitenton, Jason Whitenton, Elmer Clark, and Dennis Smith.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
