LEORA HAMM JOHNSON
Tupelo - Leora Hamm Johnson, 87, died Monday, November 20, 2006, at Crestwood Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born April 23, 1919 near Tremont to the late Trannie and Etta Hall Hamm. In 1937 she graduated from Mooreville High School where she was valedictorian of her class. A long time resident of Tupelo, she was employed at J.C. Penny's over 20 years. She was the widow of William Gene Johnson who preceded her in death in 1971. They had lived many other places in the U.S. while her husband served in the military. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing bingo and bowling with her friends at HarborChase Assisted Living in Huntsville, and shopping and dining out with her daughter. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Lowell Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Gilvo Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Rhonda Lee Johnson of Huntsville; a sister, Rubal Hamm Priddy of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Ronald Alan Holcomb, Jr., and wife, Courtney, of Jackson, William Glenn Johnson, Jr.and wife, Stacey, of Tupelo, Christina Michelle Rausch and husband, Jamie, of Mantachie, and Christopher Michael Johnson of Tupelo; four great-grandchildren, Stephen Nathaniel Johnson, Cameron Glenn Johnson, Logan Chandler Rausch,and Dillon Parker Rausch.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son, William Glenn Johnson, Sr.; a sister, Eunez Hamm Morrissey; and a brother Wrencil Hamm.
Pallbearers will be Alan Holcomb and William Johnson.
Visitation will continue from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
