Leonard Stransky

Ridgeland--Leonard J. Stransky, 87, died September 29, 2008, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland after an extended illness. He was born in Chicago, IL, on March 1, 1921, to Joseph and Libby (Kubista) Stransky.
He graduated from Morton East High School in 1939. He served in the infantry in World War II, and received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the Battle of the Bulge. He married Janet Pecha in 1943, and they were devoted partners for 65 years. He worked for FMC Corporation (formerly Link-Belt) as a Maintenance Supervisor from 1939 until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of Warren Park Presbyterian Church in Cicero, IL, until he and Janet moved to Tupelo, MS, in 1973. They joined Harrisburg Baptist Church, where he was an active member in his Sunday School class. He enjoyed traveling (he visited every state in the U.S.), rarely missed a Chicago Cubs baseball game, was an avid golfer, and thought his 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren were the best.
Services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, October at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Pecha Stransky; his daughter, Susan Stransky Hoggay of Wood Dale, IL; his daughter, Kathryn Stransky Scott and husband Marvin of Jackson, MS; his son, Robert Stransky and wife Nancy of Davis, IL; his grandchildren, Ken Hoggay and wife Renee of Pittsburgh, PA, Bryan Stransky of Tuscon, AZ, Sarah and Emily Anne Scott of Jackson, MS; and his great-grandchildren, Julia and Luke Hoggay of Pittsburgh, PA. He is preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Ashley Michelle Stransky.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo, MS, or to the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
