Lenore Cook

Tupelo - Lenore Burcham Irby Cook, 78, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a short illness. A Mooreville native and lifelong resident of Lee County, she was born October 26, 1930 to Arthur E. and Lena Mae Brooks Burcham. In 1949, she graduated from Mooreville High School. She lived most of her adult life in Tupelo. She worked keeping medical records for Dr. Kirk and Dr. Caldwell, and later for Internal Medical Association where she retired in 1987, after more than 30 years of service. She was an avid worker of crossword puzzles and enjoyed reading and watching her soap operas on television. She married James M. Irby who died in 1963, then married Martin Douglas Cook in 1986. He preceded her in death in 1992.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include two sons, James Irby and wife, Cathy, of Panama City, Fla. and William M. Irby and wife, Jackeleene, of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Thomas Irby and wife, Leah, of Panama City, Tyler Irby of Panama City, Richard Diaz of Lawton, Okla., Sikiu Diaz of Lawton, Okla.; two great-grandchildren, Montana and Bianca Diaz .

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
