Lela Yancey

April 5, 1917 — May 26, 2008

Tupelo - Lela B. Yancey, 91, died Monday, May 26, 2008, at Traceway Manor after a brief illness. A Lee County native, she was born April 5, 1917 to the late Ernest Lee and Essie Moore Bolen. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading and working crossword puzzles. She also spent time volunteering for the Greenhouses at Traceway and Women First. She loved her family and her church, Palmetto United Methodist, where she was a dedicated and faithful member, teaching Sunday School and participating in the women's club and senior adult group, OWLS.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Palmetto United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Sparks and Rev. Lance Presley officiating. Burial will be in Palmetto Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean Harden, and husband, Malcolm, of Tupelo, and Julia Presley of Tupelo; one son, Thomas E. Yancey and wife, Vickie, of Jackson, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Lance Presley, Maria Presley, Heath Harden, Drew Yancey, and Mallory Yancey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of over 50 years, Thomas E. Yancey, Jr.; her sister, Eva Hester; and her son-in-law, Ricky Presley.

Pallbearers will be James Williams, Bruce Williams, Larry Hester, Michael Hester, Drew Yancey, Heath Harden, Larry Case, and Greg Hester.

Visitation will continue at the church from noon until service time.

Memorials may be made to Palmetto United Methodist Church.
