Lawrence Stanley Tupelo- Lawrence Mitchell Stanley, 85, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on December 8, 2014 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born to Walter and Ruth Stanley on September 6, 1929 in Saltillo, Mississippi. Upon graduation from Saltillo High School in 1946 he moved to Tupelo and became one of Tupelo's greatest ambassadors. He worked for TKE drugstore, as a "soda jerk" as he liked to call himself. Upon leaving TKE, he worked for Tupelo, Water and Light department until he retired in 1987, where he made many lasting friendships. He had a love for everyone and always was concerned if the people he met knew Jesus Christ. He loved his church where he served his Lord in many different capacities: Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, youth group as well as serving on many committees. As a member of Tupelo Luncheon Civitan Club, he served on the board for several years and greatly enjoyed helping in all the clubs projects, his favorite being the Salvation Army Bell Ringing project and the "Fish Fry", doing volunteer work in the community was a favorite pass time and he greatly enjoyed working with Presley Heights Neighborhood Association. As well as serving on the Tupelo Veterans Council. He is survived by his wife Mae Miller Stanley; two daughters, Janice Stanley Anthony and Nancy Stanley Davis (Roger); one step-daughter, Susan Miller Powell (Gary); one brother, Wayne Stanley (Kay); four grandchildren, Corey Littrell (Anne Marie), Amy McKay (Bobby), Will Davis (Megan) and Emily Griffith (John Craig); he was also was "Pappaw" to three step-grandchildren, Stacy Vickers (Brent), Jennifer Powell Begrin (Mark), Jon Gary Powell. Also his beloved great-grandchildren Alexis Littrell, Mary Lawrence McKay, Lydia McKay and Easton Davis as well as his step great-grandchildren, Adam, Matthew, Meadow Begrin, Brock and Paxton Vickers and Noah Powell. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Alene Burleson Stanley; his parents Walter and Ruth Stanley; one brother, Allen Stanley; a step-son, Rickie Miller and one step daughter, Kathy Miller Brown. Pallbearers will be the Men's Tuesday night prayer group: Gwin Berryhill, Murry Lott, Mark Clayton, Gary Townsend, Jimmy Swann, Mike Pate. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lawrence's Sunday School class and the Tupelo Luncheon Civitan group. A celebration of his life will be 3 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2014 at East Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Brown officiating. Burial will be at Lee Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday December 10, 2014 at East Heights Baptist Church and also 2 p.m. until service time Thursday December 11, 2014. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to East Heights Baptist Church building fund.
