Tupelo - Laverne Posey, 84, died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Home Place Assisted Living after an extended illness. A Richmond Community native and longtime resident of Tupelo, she was the daughter of Lamont S. and Ruby Armstrong Posey. She graduated from Plantersville High School. For over 40 years she was the owner and operator of Merle Norman Cosmetics. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Conferderacy, and the Daughters of the War of 1812. Her friends and co-workers remember her a as lively and cheerful individual who influenced many young women through her business. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. David Eldridge officiating. Entombment will be in Lee Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Survivors include her sister, Blanche Arnold and husband, Wayne, of Vienna, Va.; her brother-in-law, George Allen Wilson, of Tupelo; her sister-in-law, Joyce Posey of Madison; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Judy Carroll; her sister, JoAnne Posey Wilson; her brother, Wayne Posey.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
