Tupelo—Lavenia Easterling Moore, age 95, passed away Monday, September 30, 2024 at the Franks House of Traceway Retirement Community. A native of the Birmingham Ridge Community and lifelong Lee County resident, she was born April 12, 1929 to George and Clara Easterling. Lavenia attended Birmingham Ridge School and graduated from Cedar Hill High School as valedictorian of her senior class. She was charter member of the Mississippi Chapter of Homemakers of America and editor of the first published newsletter. She attended Mississippi State College for Women (now MUW). After her college days, Lavenia worked at Citizen State Bank for 15 years then retired from Comcast Cable as office manager after 25 years of service. A woman of deep faith, she was a dedicated member of Tupelo’s First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Chancel Choir, the Holloman/Covenant Sunday School, and United Methodist Women. She stayed busy serving her community by volunteering with the clothes closet and Helping Hands ministry since 1999.
She is survived by her children Bob Moore and wife Ginny of Colleyville, Texas, Jim Moore and wife Cathy of Southlake, Texas, and Debbie McGehee and husband Richard of Tupelo; eleven grandchildren Barry Schuster and husband Eric of Greenville, Branton Moore and husband Oliver Gremmes of Berlin, Germany, Easlin Moore and wife Samantha of Madison, Cheslee Ross and husband Jason of Memphis, Tennessee, Evan Moore of North Hollywood, California, Curtis McGehee and wife Ashley of Celebration, Florida, Virginia Moore of Dallas, Mellie Trevas and husband Hudson of Strasbourg, France, Clara Moore of Frisco,Texas, Rachel Tuck and husband Derric of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Adam Moore and wife Madison of Plano, Texas; her great grandchildren William Schuster, Ben Schuster, Watson Moore, Emery Ross, Bonnie McGehee, and Leo Trevas; several nieces and nephews; and longtime family friend and caregiver Theresa Garmon.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Clara Easterling; her husband of 62 years, Murray Moore; sisters Sue Anglin and Marguerite Martin; and a brother, Leo Easterling.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors. Burial will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at Pegues, Tupelo.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
