Tupelo - Lauren L. Groover, 41, died, Monday, April 12, 2010. A Carlsbad, New Mexico native, she was born September 11, 1968 to Billy G. and Beverly K. Hammons. She graduated high school in Leesville, Louisiana she then went on to attend the University of New Mexico.
She was an advocate/activist/advisor for children struggling with reading disabilities, dyslexia, and ADD/ADHD. Some things that she loved included her family, advocacy, reading, boating, spending time with her kids, animals, fingernail polish, make up, having fun, living life , shocking people, loving people, making changes, risk taker, gambling, people watching, wakeboarding, Northern New Mexico, Hawaii, California, arrowhead hunting, beaches, sand, sunsets, mountains, playing with clay, meeting real people, acting like she was 16, working with Mississippi's State Legislature's Education Committee and Department of Education, showing people how to live without judgments, changing their directions in life, the smell of popcorn popping, fresh flowers, margarita's, homemade pies, her lab Chloe, watching hummingbirds in the back yard, and searching for Bald Eagles at her lake house.

She was an advocate for Dyslexia. Numerous times she testified before the Mississippi Legislature advocating testing of elementary students for dyslexia. The legislation passed to implement the requirement for Mississippi student in 2008. Through her extensive knowledge of information systems she became nationally known for her expertise in the treatment of breast cancer. Most recently articles about her appeared in CURE and Womens Health Magazines. She was very active in on-line support groups and had many friends throughout the world. She touched many lives and made a difference. She received her wings after a fierce five year battle with cancer. She was fun loving, quick witted and dedicated to her family. She was a member of The Orchard Congregation.

A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Bryan Collier officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Randy Groover; her twin sons, Kyle M. Groover and Troy W. Groover of Tupelo; her parents, Billy and Beverly Hammons; one sister, Lisa Morgan (Dean), of Fountain Valley, California; one brother, Brian Hammons (Karen) of Natchez; one niece, Kayla Morgan of Fountain Valley, California; three nephews, Clay Hammons of Hattisburgh, Collin Hammons of Natchez, and Kade Morgan of Fountain Valley, California; two uncles, Sammy Hammons (Ellen) of Capitan, New Mexico, Charles Hammons Jr. of Belen, New Mexico; two aunts, Charlene Cambell (Chester), Texas and Karen Hammons of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; numerous cousins throughout the U.S; a very special friend, Emily Sims Stookey of Huntsville, Alabama; her mother-in-law, Hilda Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, W. Howard Spence and LaRue Jackson; paternal grandparents, Charles W. Hammons, Sr. and Cathryn E. Hammons.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the funeral home.
