TUPELO - Laura Ellen McCollum, 69, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at her home after a long illness. She was born Aug. 4, 1938, in Houston, Texas, to the late James Elwyn and Ethel Lucille Tischer Wyatt. She was an artist. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where she was involved in the Women's Missionary Union and the Senior Citizens Group. She enjoyed gardening.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Ferrell Cork and the Rev. Owen Reddick officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at Union Cemetery near Belden with Bro. Dwight Brown officiating.
Survivors include four daughters, Gale Hardy (Clifton), Connie Baldwin, and Neisha Bell (Shawn), all of Tupelo, and Lucy Hays (Cory) of North Carolina; three sons, Alan McCollum (Linda) of Conroe, Texas, Morris McCollum (Kathryn) of Tupelo and Timothy McCollum (fiance, Amanda Edwards) of Memphis; 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Jenalee Gilliam of Verona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orbie "Skee" McCollum Jr.; a granddaughter, Melissa Collier Mann; and a grandson, Jesse Hardy.
Pallbearers will be James Goolsby, Casey Hardy, Michael Moses, Rex Dahl, Shawn Bell and Steve Cook.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
