LARRY D. ARMSTRONG Richmond Community - Larry D. Armstrong, 70, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015, at his home after an extended illness. He was born December 21, 1944, to Delmer and Lorraine Harris Armstrong. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of English and the University of Mississippi with a Master of Education with an English emphasis. Mr. Armstrong taught 45 years in the English Department at ICC and was the head of the English Department for 38 of those years. He held many awards for his teaching abilities, and he was highly revered among faculty and students. Mr. Armstrong spent most of his time with his grandchildren after his retirement in 2011. He was a member of Dorsey Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also on the New Chapel Cemetery Committee. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Bro. Danny Rushing officiating. Burial will be in New Chapel Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Pam Armstrong of Richmond; children, Andrea Armstrong and Jonathan Armstrong (Ashley) both of Richmond; grandchildren, Brayton Armstrong and Kaylee Armstrong both of the home. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will be Dr. Ken Bishop, Robert Walker, Sr., Bill Shumpert, Harry Armstrong, Dean Burchfield, and Randy Kennedy. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Armstrong, Bob Shumpert, Danny Clouse, Eddie Clouse, Paul Carter, and Alfred York. Visitation will be 5 - 9 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo. Memorials may be made to New Chapel Cemetery Fund, 1191 Section Line Road, Nettleton, 38858. Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com
