LANELDA ?NELLE? SHIRLEY

Tupelo ? Lanelda ?Nelle? Shirley passed away April 5, 2014, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a long illness. She was born May 9, 1924, in Clermont, Georgia, to Claud and Mae Whelchel, She graduated from North Georgia College. Furthering her education, she studied at Mercer University where she became the secretary of the president and later, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She taught school at Lula, Georgia and in Clermont, Georgia. A devout Christian, wife and mother, she partnered with her husband in his ministry and taught Sunday School for many years. She also enjoyed volunteering at the N.M.M.C. for over thirty years. She loved her family and cherished time spent with them. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Parkway Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Scopel officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors will be in charge of the arrangements.

She leaves behind her husband of sixty-eight years, Robert E. Shirley; two children, Anne Brock and David Shirley; four grandchildren, Lynn O?Neal, Cindy Crothers, Scott Slaughter and Mark Slaughter; five great-grandchildren, Shelly Butler, Dustin Franklin, Collin Crothers, Abby Crothers and Skylar Slaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Bob, Tom, Y.G and Johnnie and two sisters, Betty and Montene.

Pallbearers will be Roger Bean, Jim Furtick, Charles Owens, Bobby Wilson, Dustin Franklin, Scott Slaughter and Chris Crothers.

Visitation will be 5 ? 7 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, at the Pegues Funeral Home.
