Lana Murphy Franks

SaltilloLana Murphy Franks, age 49, died April 20, 2006 at the Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness from ovarian cancer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tupelo. She grew up in Sherman and graduated with honors from East Union High School in Blue Springs in 1975. she was a published poet with a book of selected poems entitled, "Bleed, poetry about love and loss based on her love for life, love and adversity in her life.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Bryan Collier officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.

Survivors include her three children, Candice Cayson Hargett, Molly Jaggers Brannigan, and Ashton Alexander Franks; a grandson, Hunter Brannigan; her mother, Tobie Murphy of Belden; two sisters, Mitzi Murphy Phillips and husband, Paul, Lisa Murphy Taylor; two nieces, Natalie Taylor and Bonnie Wood; one nephew, Brad Murphy; and a great-niece, Liza Kate McMillan; her dog, Lucy and her cat, Edward.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Murphy, Jr; a brothers, Pete Murphy and her baby brother, Carl Davis, Jr; and a half brother, Carl Thomas.

Her favorite quotes were: "God said, I have chosen you. "I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now, let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again. John Wesley

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
