Mantachie - Kevin Douglas Long, 44, died Monday, March 20, 2006, at his residence after an extended illness. A native of Illinois, he was born April 12, 1961 to Alice Moore Long the late Jimmy E. Long. He was a retired truck driver with Allied and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Dorsey. He was a fan of Nascar, the Ole Miss Rebels, and his grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Longview Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Russell and Rev. Matt Russell officiating. Burial will be in Longview Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his daughter, Kristan Ellis, and husband, Jamie, of Ecru; two sons, Doug Long Jr. and wife, Samantha, of Mantachie, and Keith Garner of Pontotoc; his mother, Alice Moore Long of Mantachie; two sisters, Teresa Rinehart of Saltillo and Lisa Little of the Auburn Community; one brother, Jimmy Long Jr, of Verona; his grandmother, Evelyn Moore of Verona; his grandfather, Bob Raper of Verona; six grandchildren, Greg Smith, Ansley Smith, and Eli Smith, all of Pontotoc, Brianna Brown of Mantachie, Laken Long of Pontotoc, and Devin "Little Man" Long of Mantachie; two special nieces, Megan and Natalie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy E. Long, Sr.; his grandmother, Ruby Raper; and his grandfather, Ruel Moore.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Nickels, Trent Nickels, Chris Keith, Kevin Harmon, Kevin Pannell, Brett Pounds, Mike Underwood, and Shane West.
Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until noon on Thursday at the funeral home.
