Kenny Schaper

April 23, 1932 — June 13, 2011

Saltillo - Kenneth Jean Schaper, 79, died Monday, June 13, 2011, at The Sanctuary Hospice House. A native of Pana, Illinois, he was born April 23, 1932, to Roy and Huldah Kettlecamp Schaper. He served stateside as a rifle instructor in the US Army during the Korean War. After completing his education, he started Schaper Poultry in Pana, Illinois. In 1968, he moved to Tupelo, continuing his work in the poultry industry. In 1981, he formed the Schaper Company of Tupelo. In the mid-1980's he purchased Eastport Marina on the Tennessee River in Iuka which he operated until his retirement.

He was a member and past president of the Tupelo Country Club, and the Iuka Country Club. He was a Sunday School teacher and Methodist Youth Fellowship teacher at First United Methodist Church in Tupelo. He was currently a member of Iuka United Methodist Church. He was also past president of National Independent Poultry and Food Distributors of America and was elected Man of the Year in the early 90's. He was also a longtime member of the National Broiler Council. He enjoyed golf, raising Santa Gertrudis cattle, and boating and fishing with his golden retrievers, Bubba Soap, and Rusty

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Jon Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 21 years, Judy Schaper of Saltillo; five daughters, Kathy Vandevander of Tupelo, Kim Estess (Joe) of New Albany, Linda Schaper of Marshville, North Carolina, Sherry Meharry (Tim) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dana Roberts (Randy) of Blue Springs; nine grandchildren, Brian Estess, April Vinet, Valerie Donnell, Corey Vandevander, Jessica Jacobs, Meghan McFall, Kallie, Kensie, and Jessie Roberts; eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Yvonne Lewis.

Pallbearers will be Joe Estess, Brian Estess, Randy Roberts, Wayne Stone, Jimmy Dees, and Greg Royal.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
