Kenneth Wood

Tupelo " Kenneth Wood, 83, died Monday, December 17, 2007, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A Greenville native, he was born August 1, 1924 to the late James Earnest and Allie Ouida Johnston Wood. He attended Delta State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European theatre and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and several other medals and commendations. After his military service, he moved to Tunica where he worked for International Harvester as a mechanic and later in sales. From there he went to Implement Sales Company and retired after 25 years of service. He married Grace Young Wood May 5, 1951 in Tunica. He had also lived in Jonestown and Cleveland. In 1969, they moved to Tupelo where they made their home ever since. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed boating, fishing, and the outdoors. He was a faithful member of West Jackson Street Baptist Church.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Bert Harper officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Grace Young Wood; three daughters, Dianne Ledbetter and husband, David, of Tupelo, Kim Killough and husband, Jimmy, of Shannon, and Paula Wood of Tupelo; one son, Steve Wood of Guntown; his sister, Helen Williams of Cleveland; nine grandchildren, Crystal Parham and husband, Johnathan, Kenny Vanice, Karla Ledbetter, Brookes Beasley and husband, Adam, Jason Ledbetter, Ryan Killough, Ben Killough, Caroline Killough, and Gracie Killough; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his Father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert Earl and Willie Ann Young.

Pallbearers will be Ronny Herndon, David Ledbetter, Jimmy Killough, Johnathan Parham, Adam Beasley, and Malcolm Ashcraft.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
