Katie Lou Young, 70, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the hospice unit of North Mississippi Medical Center. A native of Savannah, Tennessee, she was born June 10, 1948, to Jake and Daisey Hadley Kelley and for the past 11 years, she has called Pontotoc home. On November 20, 1998, she married Neil Young. Katie was an exceptional cook and often made meals for her children and grandchildren who she loved very much. She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and fishing and absolutely loved listening to music and dancing. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Neil Young of Pontotoc; four sons, Tony Armstrong (Patricia) of Pontotoc, Brian Keith Armstrong (Carla) of Saltillo, Hughy Armstrong (Tina) of Saltillo and Patrick Armstrong (Emily) of Saltillo; 13 grandchildren, Allen, Cooper, Dylan, Andrew, Ashley, Michael, Katelyn, Wyatte, Ryleigh, Kennedi, Bodhi, Brandon and Eric; great-grandson, Hunter and one sister, Daisy "Blue Eyes" Plunk.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Daisey Kelley; five sisters, Essie Mullins, Betty DeShazier, Onie Kenney, Marie Shelby and Joannie Love; and three brothers, Jakie Kelley, George Kelley and Hugh Kelley.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2019 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring her life will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2019 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with her grandson, Minister Dylan Armstrong officiating. Graveside services will follow in Lee Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Allen Armstrong, Tim Hall, Eric Jones, Roger Tilson, Anthony Plunk and Little Lee Armstrong.
Honorary pallbearers will be Maurice Jones.
