Biloxi—Mary Kathryn Houston passed away October 3, 2022 at her home in Biloxi. A native and longtime resident of Lee County, she was born April 4, 1928 to Johnny Newton Witcher and Myrtle Gilliland Witcher. Kathryn was primarily a homemaker, and cherished taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member as well as the oldest member of The Orchard before moving to Biloxi. Kathryn served in the Godmother Ministry for many years and was also a volunteer at Sanctuary Hospice House. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and quilting. Kathryn was the widow of Robert “Bob” G. Houston, and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage before his passing in 2005.
She leaves behind three children, Roger W. Houston of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mollie Miller (Tommy) of Pontotoc, and Amanda Trent (Kenneth) of Biloxi; nine grandchildren, Heather Kreger (Tony), Ryan Houston (Amanda), Lee Houston, Adam Miller (Lisa), James Miller (Kelly), Scottie Sypolt (Gary), Hannah Russell (Wesley), Hollie Tucker (Ethan), and Cyndi Gillespie; 16 great-grandchildren, Hadleigh and Lilah Kreger, Riley and Mary Ashley Houston, Amy and Kara Miller, Meadow, Celtie, Clayton, and Naomi Sypolt, Mollie, Michael, Max, and Jack Miller, and Liam and Judah Gillespie; one brother, J.N. Witcher of Tupelo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Richard Lee Houston.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Saturday, October 8, 2022 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo .Services honoring Kathryn’s memory will be 12 p.m. at the Jefferson Street chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Jay Stanley officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Trent, Lee Houston, Adam Miller, Ryan Houston, Tony Kreger, and Ethan Tucker.
