Tupelo - Mary Kathryn (Kay) Benney, 94, died Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at her residence after a brief illness. A native of Lancaster, Penn., she was born July 28, 1916, to Charley and Grace Metzler Wenditz. She lived in Tupelo the past 50 years. Earlier in life, she was a hall of fame championship bowler and enjoyed assisting physically challenged children bowl. She volunteered for many different charities and organizations. She also loved playing bridge and working in her yard. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Services will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Dr. Ron Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include her daughter, Jeanette Thomason of Tupelo; a sister, Betty Lou Krof of Delaware; a brother, Bill Wenditz of Largo, Fla.; four grandchildren, Dottie Crump, John Mark Thomason, Robert Burns Thomason, and Harry Donald Thomason, all of Tupelo; two great-grandchildren, Dianna Carr of Tupelo and Christopher Patrick Thomason; and her best friend, Ruth Ann Wilcox
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Harry Benney; her son, Jack Benney.
Honorary Pallbearers will be John Mark Thomason, Robert Thomason, Jonathan Baswell, Thomas Harris, Brandy Hopkins, Jimmy Smith, and Johnny and David Payne.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
