Skyline - June Tackett, 79, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto after an extended illness. An Itawamba County native, she was born September 18, 1929 to McGee and Winnie Walton Umfress. She was owner and operator of the Skyline Beauty Shope for over 40 years. She married Lowery Tackett July 3, 1952. An avid reader, she also enjoyed cooking for her family and taking long rides looking at the countryside. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a loving mother and friend to many. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Dave Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Lowery Tackett of the Skyline Community; one daughter, Joyce Tackett Dozier and Mackey Copeland who was also her caregiver, of Skyline; one son, Randy Tackett and fiance, Tina Hutcheson, of Mooreville; five sisters, Kathleen Williams and husband, James of Palmetto, Bobbie Presley and husband, Kenneth, of Pearl, Linda Umfress of Kentucky, Pat Umfress of Tupelo, and Nelda Umfress of Coumbus; her step mother, Ruth Umfress of Mooreville; five grandchilren, Josh Tackett and wife, Meghan, of Waco Tex., April Lee Dozier of Skyliine, Zach Dozier of Spain, Jake Tackett and wife, Melissa, of Ft. Cannon, N.M., Jonathan Tackett of Dorsey; one sister-in-law, Sandy Tackett of Mantachie; and her special caregivers, Janice.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Hall, Bruch Williams, Zach Dozier, Justin Copeland, Mackey Copeland and Kelly Page.
Visitation will continue Friday and Saturday after 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
