June “Memoy” Phillips

Saltillo- Dorothy June Phillips, 86, died Friday, December 9, 2022 at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born on January 19, 1936 in Arkansas. She was the daughter of Pete Wright and Lois Marie McDaniel Wright. In 1953, June graduated alongside Elvis Presley at Humes High School in Memphis, Tennessee. On September 19, 1953, she married James Thomas Phillips. Although a bit stubborn and at times feisty, June was a devoted wife and mother and an adored grandmother and great-grandmother. She was affectionately called “Memoy” by her grandchildren. She was an active member of Priceville Baptist Church and enjoyed her Golden Circle Sunday School Class. She enjoyed traveling especially to Branson, talking on the phone, her lady’s bunco group, and spending time with her family.

June is survived by her husband of 69 years, James Phillips; two children, Lynne Phillips Malone, and Mickey Phillips both of Saltillo; four grandchildren, Jamey Scates and his wife, Amanda, Michael Phillips and his wife, Stephanie, Geoffrey Phillips and his wife, Keri all of Saltillo, and Brandon Malone of Spokane, Washington; ten great-grandchildren, Serenity, Brooke, Blake, Maice, Cooper, Baylor, Kara Brooke, Tucker, Parker, and Khloe; two great-great-grandchildren, Silas, and Mary Morgan; three sisters-in-law, Sarah Flanagin, Frances Cresap and her husband, Jim, and Peggy Stults; special nephew, Jimmy Muse; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete Wright and Lois Wright Hudson; and sister, Kay Galloway.

Visitation will be 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Pegues, Saltillo.

Services celebrating June’s life will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2022 at the Saltillo Chapel of Pegues with Rev. Chris Carter officiating. Burial will be at Saltillo Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jamey Scates, Michael Phillips, Geoffrey Phillips, Baylor Phillips, Brandon Malone, Tucker Phillips, Cooper Scates, and Parker Phillips.
