Richmond Community- Judith Diane Johnston, 68, died May 2, 2018, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Judy was born on July 24, 1949, to Laverne Alene Butler Holcomb in Tupelo. After Laverne's death she was raised by her maternal grandparents, Sarah "Sadie" Katherine Maynard White and Jot White. Judy graduated from Shannon High School and earned her Beauticians Degree. She began her professional career as a beautician and worked various jobs before making a career at Hunter Douglas, where she retired after 25 years. While at Hunter Douglas, she was affectionately known as "Hoot."

Judy married Gary Johnston, on February 3, 1968, and together they had two children and three grandchildren. She and her husband are active members of Richmond Baptist Church, where Judy was very involved as the Nursery Coordinator.  Judy enjoyed reading, crafts, sewing and crocheting.

She leaves her husband of 50 years, Gary Johnston of the Richmond Community; two daughters, Gerra Johnston of Mooreville and Mandi Herring and her husband, Nat, of Nettleton; three grandchildren, Zach Boumedjirek, Ethan Herring and Meghan Bigham; Aleah Kimble-Simpson whom she loved as a grandchild; a brother, Phillip Ward and his wife, Rochelle, of Tallahassee, Florida; brother-in-law Paul Estes of Nettleton; aunt Patsy Webb of Saltillo and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her biological parents, Laverne Alene Butler Holcomb and Clifton Holcomb; her grandparents who raised her, Sadie White and Jot White, and a sister, Gayle Estes.

Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 at W. E. Pegues, Saltillo.

A celebration of Judy's life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Saltillo Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Jeremy McMann officiating. Graveside services will follow at Andrew's Chapel Cemetery, Mooreville.

Pallbearers will be Zach Boumedjirek, Ethan Herring, Jack Tate, Rodney Lindley, Keith Strawn and Chris Gillentine.

The service will be live streamed and recorded for those who may not be able to attend at www.peguesfuneralhome.com .
