Judith K. Michael Baldwyn- Judith Karen Michael, 72, died March 15, 2015, at the Baldwyn Nursing Facility. Ms. Michael was born in Vicksburg on May 10, 1942 to Rebecca Moore Michael of Houston and Edward G. Michael of Rochester, New Hampshire. The family lived in Houston and Yazoo City. After graduation from Yazoo High School, she attended Millsaps College and graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. In 1968, she received her Master of Social Work degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. She retired from State employment with 25 years of service, most of which was the Department of Human Services where she worked as a County Child Welfare Worker, District Social Services Supervisor, Program Director and Director of the Child Support Program. Subsequently, she worked at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson as a Medical Social Worker, specifically with cancer patients, and then at Gilbert's Home Health Agency. She retired from paid employment in October of 1994, but remained busy with volunteer work in several areas, including the Ridgeland Public Library, Baptist Adult Day Services, the Story Book Project, and Stewpot Community Services. She also became active in political organizations including the League of Women Voters and the Democratic Club. In the Tupelo area she continued to volunteer. At the time of her death she was living in Baldwyn, which took her closer to her sister's home and her nephew and family. She is survived by her sister, Jan Michael Daugherty, nephew Drew Daugherty, his children, Palmer Daugherty and Miller (Mills) Michael Daugherty and their mother, Catherine Pace Daugherty. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Prospect Methodist Church, 1413 Hwy 380, Houston, MS 38851.
