Tupelo- Joyce McDaniel Hudson just one day shy of her 76th birthday, died unexpectedly Monday, July 24, 2023, at her home. Joyce was born on July 25, 1947. She was one of the six daughters of John and Viola Cherry McDaniel. Joyce had a larger-than-life personality who cherished her time spent with family and friends. She was a faithful and dedicated Palmetto Baptist Church member. She was the church's unofficial correspondence clerk, always sending letters to members to get well, thinking about them, and birthdays. She was working towards gaining her ability to walk so she could get back to church on Sundays. She enjoyed crafting, especially making jewelry and crocheting. She always enjoyed having her nails done and looking her best.

Joyce leaves behind her three children, Markita Standfield (Van) of Van Vleet, Curtis Dean Hudson, Jr. of Southaven, and Janie Mae Hudson (Kenny Simmons) of Lafayette Springs; daughter-in-law, Pam Hudson of Okolona, 8 grandchildren, JC Hudson, Trey Hudson (Sarah), Briana Hudson, and Harley Hudson, Kayla Stewart, William Taylor (Elizabeth), Zachary Taylor (Amanda), Vanessa Houston (Jay); 19 great-grandchildren, one sister, Hazel Whitt of Houston, and special niece, Reggie Simmons of Pontotoc.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 11 years, Curtis Hudson, Sr. in 1981, son, John Kevin Hudson, parents, and four sisters, Marie Voyles, Lillian Massey, Geneva Free, and Ruby Turner.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring her life will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Pastor Jimmy Webb officiating. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery in Van Vleet.

Pallbearers will be JC Hudson, Trey Hudson, Harley Hudson, Zachary Taylor, William Taylor, and Michael Stewart. Billy Free and Emmett Free will serve as honorary pallbearers.
