JOYCE HOLT

Tupelo - Joyce Johnston Holt, 70, died Friday, October 20, 2006, at her residence after a sudden illness. A Lee County native, she was born April 28, 1936 to the late Watson and Evie Jackson Johnston. She was a 1954 graduate of Armoral High School in Armoral, Ark. where she was valedictorian. A homemaker most of her life, she enjoyed quilting and sewing and was a member of the ladies quilting group at her church. She also enjoyed music. She was a faithful member of Chesterville Baptist Church where she served as a church pianist for over 45 years. She loved her grandchildren and the time she spent with them.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2006 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Sammy Coker and Rev. Winston Ross officiating. Burial will be in Chesterville Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Howard Holt of Tupelo; one daughter, Stephanie Stanfield (David) of Belden; three sons, Ted Holt (Jerry) of Tupelo, Trent Holt (Jeannie) of Tupelo, and Tim Holt (Carmen) of Woodstock, Ga.; two sisters, Geneva Wilder of Pontotoc, and Ann Ursery of Guntersville, Ala; two brothers, Leonard Johnston of Kingston, Tenn. and Carlton Johnston of Lenoir City, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren, Kyle Crider, Tabitha Marlar, Bret Holt, Tyler Holt, Anna Holt, Brittany Stanfield, Caleb Holt, Amy Holt, Austin Stanfield, Nathan Holt, Jacob Holt, Hunter Stanfield, Joyce Holt, and Grace Holt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Watson Wooten; and three brothers, James Johnston, Zane Johnston, and Joe Johnston.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
