JOYCE HOLCOMB Tupelo - Joyce Ozbirn Holcomb, 78, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a short illness. She was born in Tishomingo County to Carl and Estine Ozbirn on September 14, 1934. Joyce attended school in Belmont graduating Valedictorian. She continued her education at Northeast Junior College where she was trained in secretarial skills. In her lifetime, she worked at The North Mississippi Highway Department, Nail McKinney Tate and Robinson, and Hancock Fabrics. In recent years, she enjoyed her retirement living at Traceway Retirement Community. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. In 1953, she married L. G. Holcomb. She was a member of West Jackson Baptist church. Services will be 3 p.m. at W. E. Pegues Funeral Home, Sunday March 11 2012, with Rev. Dave Jensen officiating and a eulogy by Senator Roger Wicker. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. until service time. Pallbearers will be Brett Brooks, George Holcomb, Sidney Holcomb, Jerry McAnally, Steve McAnally, and Mark Ozbirn. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Bowers, Edi Butler, Pat Funderburk, Myra Guyton, Beatrice Hardin, Jane Phipps, Margaret Prentice, Delores Smith, Betty Trammel, Brenda Smith, and Jean White. Survivors include her sons, Kelly Holcomb (Tarji) and Terry Holcomb (Robyn); granddaughter, Megan Daneshrad (Daniel); sister-in-laws, Johnnie Ozbirn and Von Paden; brother-in-law, Hugh Holcomb (Sandy); special niece, Carla Brooks (Brett); special nephew Mark Ozbirn (Jala); special nieces Brett Ashleigh, Kendall, Rylie and Sara Barton; and Barbara Holcomb, former daughter-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Bob and Gary Ozbirn.
