Joyce Moreland Davis

JOYCE MORELAND DAVIS Tupelo - Joyce Moreland Davis, 72, went to be with The Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Memphis, Tennessee on November 3, 1942 to Dewey Aubrey and Mildred Jeanette Moreland, Joyce grew up in Memphis and Tupelo where she graduated from Tupelo High School with the class of 1960. She then married Charles "Buddy" Davis on July 2, 1960; they were married for almost 55 years. Joyce was an active member of Harrisburg Baptist Church and a long time member of West Jackson Street Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her active ministry in everything she did. At West Jackson Street Baptist Church, Joyce served in pre-school, children, youth, and adult Sunday school ministries. She then carried her work with pre-school ministry to Harrisburg Baptist Church; also an active member of FAITH Outreach ministries, she could be found visiting home-bound church members. An original ministry of her own, baking and decorating cakes and cupcakes, became an iconic symbol of her love for people and serving others. Joyce is also remembered by her survivors as the "Family Photographer". Her joy in crafting and preserving memories is evident in the numerous scrap books dedicated to her family, and her extensive research in her family's genealogy. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m., and a service celebrating her life will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Both services will be held at W.E. Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo with Dr. Forrest Sheffield and her uncle, Dr. H. K. Sorrell officiating. A graveside to follow at Tupelo Memorial Gardens. Joyce is survived by her husband, Charles "Buddy" Davis; three children, Wendy Davis Fil (Joe) of Huntsville, Alabama, Brian Davis of Los Angeles, California, Brad Davis (Selena) of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Rebecca and Mary Fil of Huntsville, Alabama, and Megan and Kristen Davis of Tupelo; two sisters, Barbara Hamilton of Tupelo, and Marsha Cole (Ken) of Fairhope, Alabama; several cousins, and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Mildred Moreland. Pallbearers will be Ed Page, Joe Upton, Darwin Cozart, Doc Robbins, Ronnie Harrison, and Cayce Harrison.
