Tupelo—Joy Whiteside Bell, at the age of 73, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022 at her home after an extended illness. She was born March 30, 1949, the daughter of Kelly and Lucille Whiteside. She was a graduate of Hickory Flat High School and Northwest Community College. Joy worked for over 20 years as a secretary at Hancock Fabric. Her faith was an important part of her life and she was a charter member of The Orchard in Tupelo. She enjoyed playing golf and traveling. Joy was an excellent cook and homemaker and cherished each moment spent with her family.
Joy leaves behind her husband of 53 years, John Bell of Tupelo; her daughter, Amy Christine Tenent and her husband, Frank, of Olive Branch; five grandchildren, Caroline Watson and Emma Grace Tigner of Tupelo, Logan and Lillian Schultz of Olive Branch, and Mya Mott of Saltillo; two great-grandchildren, Cyler Gregory and Swayzee Tigner of Tupelo; one brother, Larry Whiteside of Hickory Flat; and three sisters, Barbara Kreuz of Madison, Gloria Palmertree of Maben, and Jan Mason of Pontotoc.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Edward Bell; and her daughter, Angela Renee Bell.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Pegues Funeral Directors, Tupelo.
A memorial service honoring Joy’s life will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Pastor Brian Collier officiating.
