Kansas City, Mo.--Josephine McKinney, 73, died peacefully August 10, 2009 at Kansas City Hospice House, surrounded by loved ones. She was born October 11, 1935 to Robert Cecil and Gertrude Yarbrough in Indianola and was a long time resident of Tupelo. She graduated from nursing school in Alabama and was a registered nurse for a number of years, leaving the profession to raise her family. She and her husband, John enjoyed moving to be near their children and grandchildren, living in DeRidder, Louisiana, Charlottesville, Virginia, Houston, Texas, and Leavenworth, Kansas through the years. Her greatest joy was supporting her favorite ministries and spending time with her family.
A graveside service will be held 3:00 pm Friday at Tupelo Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, John McKinney, her son, John Robert (Bobby) McKinney and his wife Terre, of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Mary McKinney Ward and her husband Colonel David Ward of Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania; her brother, James (Yogi) Yarbrough and his wife Judy of Brookhaven, Mississippi; four grandchildren, John Stewart of Houston, Texas, Brooks McKinney Casteneda of Houston, Texas, Catherine Ward Messer of Ramstein AFB, Germany, and Michelle Ward of Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
Visitation will be from 1:30 " 2:30 pm Friday at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a Christian ministry of the donors choice.
