JOSEPH ASHBY RANDLE

Tupelo - JOSEPH ASHBY "NIG RANDLE, 89, died Saturday, July 1, 2006, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. He was born May 30, 1917 to the late Tyson M. and Minnie Mae Roberts Randle in the Zion Hill Community in Union County. He and Gladys McDonald were married on July 31, 1937. He served twenty years with the Tupelo Fire Department where he retired as assistant chief. He then began a career with Julian Deal Plumbing, later working independently until ill health forced a second retirement. For many years he boarded and trained horses where he taught numerous youngsters to ride and care for their animals. He hosted an annual trail ride that continues today as many of his former students now bring their children and grandchildren to ride. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling, especially with the Merrymakers of Harrisburg Baptist Church where he was a faithful member for more than sixty years. His life was characterized by his kindness and generosity and a wonderful sense of humor.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday Monday, July 3, 2006 at Harrisburg Baptist Church with Rev. David Langerfeld and Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys McDonald Randle, of Tupelo; one daughter, Betty Randle Smith and husband, Donnie, of Meridian; one son, Benny Randle and wife, Donna Kaye of Tupelo; two grandchildren, Kent Randle of Tupelo and Resa Randle of Oxford, Three great grandchildren, Harrison Cole, Ashby Haynes, and Alliene Fisher Randle and their mother, Lucia Haynes Randle of Fulton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Yvonne Randle McCraw and two brothers, Austin Randle and Audie Randle.

Pallbearers will be Byron Sneed, Wallace Crumby, Marvin Harwood, John Haydock, James Wilemon, David Andrews, Billy Hayes, and Bobby Witt

Honorary pallbearers will be will be Leon Herring, C. B. Boland, Roy Rowland, Bob Manard, Joe Kilgo, and the members of the Twitty-Rieves Sunday School Class at Harrisburg.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2006 at Harrisburg Baptist Church.
