JOHNNY CHRISTOPHER, SR.



Oxford - Johnny Taylor Christopher, Sr., 80, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home after a lengthy illness. He was born April 9, 1933, to Ben and Ada Laney Christopher in Tupelo. A United States Army veteran, he served his country during the Korean War Conflict. Fishing or working endlessly in his garden were his two favorite hobbies. He loved his family dearly and cherished time spent with them. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Nettleton.



A celebration of life with military honors will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Clinton Worthey officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery, West of Shannon.



Survivors include two daughters, Melissa Hunt (Mark) of Plantersville and Malina Camp (Chris) of Hamilton, Alabama; two sons, Johnny Christopher, Jr. (Shelia) and Jeremy Christopher both of Foley, Alabama; eleven grandchildren, Ashley, Matthew, Austin, Alaina, Robert, Cody, Stacy, Tonya, Amanda, Megan and Taylor and one sister, Myrtle Oliver of Shannon.



He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Ruby Raper, Polly Goggins, Beatrice Warren and Louise Sharp and four brothers, Ben Christopher, Jr., Willie Christopher, Bill Christopher and Charlie Christopher.



Pallbearers will be Austin Christopher, Robert Camp, Chris Camp, Matthew Ross, Cody Christopher and Tim Raper.



Visitation will be 5 - 9 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at the funeral home.
