Tupelo - John Wayne Phillips, 80, died Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at North Mississippi Medical Center. On August 7, 1938, he was born to Jim Phillips and Nannie Lou Oswalt Phillips in Eggville. He married the love of his life in December of 1973, the late Dorothy "Dot" South. John was employed for many years as a warehouse manager for Malone and Hyde and he retired from Columbian Rope. He was a Master Mason and a proud member of the Baldwyn Masonic Lodge. John had a heart of gold and expressed his love and thoughtfulness for others through his unique talent of building with popsicle sticks. He loved to build replicas of houses, birdhouses, crosses and various structures and give them to his family and friends. He was a member of Blue Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include his two daughters, Mary Bertrand and her husband, Randy of Fannett, Texas and Johnna Phillips of Shannon; grandchildren, April Lindstrom and her husband, Don, of Fannett, Texas, Brock Bertrand and his wife, LeeAnn, of Labelle, Texas and Donavan Phillips and his wife, Jessica, of Saltillo; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Ken Phillips and his wife, Angie of Saltillo; sister, Shirley Parker of Blue Springs; and several neices and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Phillips and Nannie Lou Phillips; wife, Dorothy Phillips; two infant sons, Bradley DeWayne Phillips and Jonathan Dale Phillips; five brothers, Leon, Len, Jimmy, Chuck and David; and three sisters, Ann, Ruth and Mildred.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday, January 18, 2019 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Services will be 12 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Dr. Ken Anderson officiating, and his grandson, Donavan Phillips providing the eulogy. Graveside services will follow in Oakhill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Donavan Phillips, Brock Bertrand, Don Lindstrom, Frankie Tackett, Zach Phillips and Jamie Able.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bradley Thompson and John Johnson.
