JOHN JONES
Saltillo - John Wootson Jones, 90, died Thursday, March 22, 2007, at The Gregory House at The Green Houses At Traceway after an extended illness. A Saltillo native and lifelong resident, he was born February 17, 1917 to the late J. Wootson and Maude Roper Jones. He was a U.S. army veteran of World War II, serving from 1941 to 1945. He was involved in the campaings of the South Pacific and also New Guinea and Luzon, Philippines. Before the war, he had worked for The Peoples Bank and Trust, Company. He was co-owner of the family business, Jones Brothers Hardware in Saltillo for many years. He was a former member of the Saltillo Town Board, School Board, and Civitan Club. He was a faithful member of Saltillo First United Methodist Church where he held several offices, the last being church treasurer.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Tim Green and Rev. Raymond Rooney officiating. Burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nadine Simmons Jones of Saltillo; one son, William T. "Bill" Jones; two grandchildren, Andrew W. Jones and Katie E. Jones, all of Corinth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Blanche R. Caviness and her husband, Charles, and Ethel McCullar and her husband, Leon; and a brother, Herman E. Jones and his wife, Adeline.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Coggins, Max Stephens, Tom Smith, W.L. Freeman, Ronnie Dunaway, Billy Irwin, Bill Long, and Bill Gammill.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Adeline Jones Sunday School Class and the Doctors, Nurses and Shahbazim at the Gregory Greenhouse.
