Tiplersville - John R. Jack Woodley, 82, died Saturday, August 29, 2009, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in El Paso, Texas January 15, 1927 to Dorothy Plumbley Woodley and Arthur Hal Woodley, Sr. He enlisted January 12, 1945 in the United States Navy and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Area on the Kalinin Bay during World War II. In 1953 he was appointed to the United States Air Force Reserves. During this time in his life, he married Sybil Hopper and graduated from New Mexico State University in Las Cruses, New Mexico. In 1977, he moved with his family to Tippersville. He retired in 1992 from Tippah Wholesale but remained very active with his hobbies. He was a man of faith, an avid airplane model enthusiast and enjoyed woodworking.
Graveside services with military honors will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Tiplersville Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sybil Hopper Woodley of Tiplersville; three daughters, Linda Fitts (Michael) of El Dorado, Arkansas, Robbie Lineberger (Michael) of Millington, Tennessee and Riann "Peggy" Hess (Tim) of South Sioux City, Nebraska; one son, Larry Woodley (Vickey) of Jacksonville, Florida; two sisters, Nancy Hobin (Ken) of Renton, Washington and Sally Jones of Bryant, Texas; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Kathy Teel and one brother, Arthur Hal Woodley, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heritage Hospice Inc, 1801 S Harper Rd Box 24. Corinth, MS or a charity of your choice.
