JOHN WESLEY HERNDON, III

Saltillo - John Wesley Herndon, III, 79, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at The North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born March 11, 1933, in Memphis, Tennessee to John Wesley ?Bud? Herndon, Sr. and Willie Brice Wiseman Herndon and lived in the Tupelo and Saltillo area all his adult life. He was a decendant of Grandma Black (Mary Audra Black) of Cotton Plant. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a retired product engineer from Rockwell International. He served as Secretary of Masonic Tupelo Lodge #318 for many years and was a 32 Degree Mason and member of the Scottish and York Rite. His hobbies included fishing, loading and shooting guns. He was an amateur Ham Radio Operator and amateur bar-b-que master. He was a great conversationalist and loved his grandchildren. He was a member of Antioch Church of Christ in Blue Springs.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Mr. Darrell E. Beard, Minister of Antioch Church of Christ in Blue Springs officiating. Burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites.

Survivors include one daughter; Rhonda Herndon Cooper (Michael) of Tupelo; one son, John Wesley Herndon, IV (Aimee) of Saltillo; two grandchildren, Brice Ann Herndon and John Wesley "Bud" Herndon, V; a special family friend, Heaven Price.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Betty Fuller Herndon in August of 1996; one infant son.

Pallbearers will be Jerry McKee, Eric Jones, Lamar Clark, Terry Scott, Tyler Scott and Jimmy Long.

Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Carson, Steve McBrayer, Ronnie Parker and Jimmy Herndon of Ft. Myers, Florida.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 6, 2012, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Antioch Church of Christ, 1350 CR 197, Blue Springs. MS 38828.
