John Elidge Sartain

April 26, 1925 — May 15, 2012

Belden- John Robert Elidge Sartain, 87, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a short illness. He was born April 26, 1925, in Pineville, Alabama to Dewey and Luella Jackson Sartin. He was a decorated United States World War II veteran of the United States Army 30th Infantary Division. He received medals from the Army in reconizition of his service during WWII, where he was a P.O.W. His greatest passion was gardening, mowing his yard and fishing. He was a Baptist by faith and attended Locust Hill Baptist Church.



Services will be 4 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2012 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Jay Stanley officiating. Military graveside services will be Saturday, May 19, 2012, in Ridge Cemetery near Red Bay, Alabama.



Survivors include three sons, Johnny L. Sartain (Patsy), Joey D. Sartain (Michele), Jeffery Aaron Sartain all of Belden; two sisters, Willie Mikels (Chuck) of Gurnee, Illinois and Lovie Dykes of Red Bay, Alabama; one brother, George Sartain of Red Bay, Alabama; one brother-in-law, Ray Malone of Shelton, Washington; one sister-in-law, Shirley Tackett of Skyline; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years November 27, 2007, Mabel Clara Hall Sartain; his parents; two infant children; 5 brothers and sisters.



Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2012, at the funeral home.
