John Dillard Davis

JOHN DILLARD DAVIS Tupelo - John Dillard Davis, 89, died March 12, 2015 at his home in Birmingham, Alabama. He was born on Birmingham Ridge, Blue Springs, Mississippi on February 1, 1926 to William Ernest and Dolores Dillard Davis. He was married for 64 years to Lorraine Armstrong. He attended Cedar Hill High School where he played basketball until he graduated in 1944. He was an active member of Gloster Street Church of Christ from 1949 until 2012 where he was a former deacon. He has been a member of Vestavia Church of Christ in Birmingham, Alabama for the past two years. He retired from American General Life Insurance after many years of being a top agent for the company. He was honored with the company's most prestigious Pinnacle Award in 1969 when he lead the company nationwide. After retiring, he enjoyed working on Davis Farm until his health declined. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. Stateroom services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015 with Bro. Chad Ramsey and Bro. Joe Connell officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. Survivors include one son, John A. Davis (Linda) of Gainesville, Florida; two daughters, Linda Davis and Sandra Pitner (Wayne) both of Birmingham, Alabama; five grandchildren, Nathan Pitner (Becky), Jordan Pitner (fiancée, Christen Lewis) both of Birmingham, Alabama, John A. Davis II (Lori), Jason Davis (Christine) and Brittany Davis all of Gainesville, Florida; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Pannell of Mooresville, North Carolina; two brothers, Jack Davis (Janice) of Baldwyn, Mississippi and David Davis (Linda) of Saltillo; one sister-in-law, Mary O'Neal of Tupelo, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two brothers, Russell Davis and Bobby Davis; two sisters, Allyene Driskell and Ernestine Ballard. Pallbearers will be Nathan and Jordan Pitner, John and Jason Davis, Drew and Parrish Frugé, Wayne Washington and Monte Key. Visitation will be from 1 - 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo. Memorials may be made to Gloster St. Church of Christ Building Fund, 307 N.
