John Crumby

March 25, 1934 — March 24, 2008

Tupelo - JOHN LYNN CRUMBY, 73, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A native of Water Valley, he was born March 25, 1934 to the late Johnnie F. and Zula Pearl Hood Crumby. In 1953, he graduated from Water Valley High School and then went on to Northwest Mississippi Junior College where he played basketball on scholarship. He earned his degree in accounting from The University of Mississippi. He married his wife, Beth Bell Crumby and then served in the National Guard in Fairbanks, Alaska for two years. After returning to Tupelo, he received his CPA and worked with M.M. Winkler and Associates as a managing partner for many years before joining the accounting firm of Nail McKinney Tate and Robinson in 1985 as partner until retirement. He enjoyed his Friday morning breakfast group. He will be remembered as an honest and ethical man of integrity. He was a longtime and faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he served as a chairman of the Finance Committee for many years and Sunday School Teacher for the Wesleyan Class.

Services will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Don McCain and Rev. Raymond Rooney officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his daughter, Lynne Crumby of Tupelo; his son, David Crumby and wife, Jan, of Atlanta, Ga.; his brother, Wallace F. Crumby and wife, Inez, of Tupelo; his sister, Mildred Fitzgerald and husband, Jerry, of Millington, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Benjamin Crumby and Emma Crumby of Atlanta, Ga.; his brothers-in-law, Jim Bell and wife, Mary Louise, of Raymond, Tom Bell and wife, Vicki, of Water Valley; numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beth Crumby who died October 18, 1987; a sister, Janie Ruth Hillhouse; and a brother, Hollis E. Crumby.

Pallbearers will be Winford Hudson, Jimmy Langley, David Andrews, Ray Wilkinson, Jim Langford, and Jerry Jordan.

Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 2010 W. Main, Tupelo MS 38801.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
