Joel Mitchell

Mooreville - Joel Mitchell, 71, died October 9, 2009, at his residence, after a brief illness. A native of Lee County, he was born September 1, 1938 to the late Delmus Connie Mitchell and Hazel Jane Loftin Mitchell. He was self employed and owned various businesses through out the years, including a gas station and rental properties. He enjoyed music and played many instruments, including the guitar, piano, and organ. The greatest joy in his later years was spending time outdoors and playing with his grandchildren. He was a member of Andrews Chapel Methodist Church.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2009 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with the Rev. Sammy Washburn officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Linda Hussey Mitchell of Mooreville; one son, Mike Mitchell (Teresa) of Mooreville; one daughter, Pam Mitchell Tharp (Kirk) of Mooreville; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Mitchell and Laura Mitchell of Mooreville; two grandsons, Mitchell Tharp and Michael Tharp of Mooreville; one sister, Naomi Barnes (James) of Mooreville; two brothers, Jack Mitchell (Judy) of Russellville, Alabama, and Harvey Mitchell of Mooreville.

He was preceded in death by his Parents; and one niece, Dean Barnes.

Pallbearers will be Matt Hussey, John Mitchell, Dean Hubbard, Rolon Barnes, Andrew Barnes, and Johnny Martin.

Visitation will be 4 " 7 p.m., Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the funeral home.
